Dear Tumblr friends:
I think I’ve established that I am a pretty rational, level-headed and fair-minded person. And so trust me when I say that DVSJR is a gigantic creep who is impinging greatly on the enjoyment of this Tumblr community amongst several women here.
He is making women feel threatened, stalked, harassed, scared, unable to sleep and feeling like they need to post less, strip personal information off their blogs, remove photos, change phone numbers, email addresses and the like. He has gone way beyond anything even remotely acceptable by me and I hope by each of you.
People are starting to speak up. I, for one, was sent a very uninvited DM and my reaction was to unfollow and block him. It was crass and gross and I didn’t like it. And the wording of it suggested he knew that could be the reaction and yet he was willing to take the risk in case I was “game.” Um, fuck no. Prior to this I thought he was nice (if a little emo) but it didn’t take long to get super creeped out feelings from his posts aimed at women. He has this weirdo super hero rescue angel bullshit that he pulls on a regular basis. It is not cool.
The worst was when he discovered the unfollow and then cried about it like a baby on Twitter and tried to goad me into explaining my unfollow. I wrote my post On Being Nice after this because I thought I would give him the benefit of doubt on a very big error in judgement… and just move on.
But now I’m getting email after email from women who say that they have been treated way worse… and THIS SHIT IS NOT COOL. Some of you hearted that post from Jason Sigman yesterday in defense of his sister Carmen. I did too. And there is a very real part of me that worries about speaking out… but you know what FUCK IT. No one is making me feel uncomfortable in here… especially that weirdo creep who befriends women and then before you know it the attention starts to move in a very undesired direction. Some women have contacted the authorities about stalking and harassment laws for their area.
So I’m speaking up and I appreciate your support. Heart, reblog, block, unfollow. Send a message that says YOUR ATTENTION IS NOT WANTED.
I sent a complaint to Tumblr but there isn’t much they can or will do. Personally, I have blocked him from following me using this link:
It seems to work better than the BLOCK link beside LIKED posts. It removes his LIKED posts and doesn’t allow him to follow you. Granted your public facing site is still public facing, but at least it controls what can be seen in the dashboard.
Seriously, staying quiet does no good and lets him continue thinking he can get away with it. I am not staying quiet.
